Electrical Technology
Electricians install, maintain, and repair electrical power, communications, lighting, and control systems in homes, businesses, and factories. They also work in various settings, like factories or residential properties. (1) The SJVC Electrical Technology program teaches students how to install, maintain, and repair electrical equipment and systems safely, competently, and professionally. Earn your Certificate of Completion in as few as 10 months. Graduates of the Electrical Technology programs in California are eligible to sit for the California General Electrician’s Certification Exam*.
Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC-R)
Heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC-R) technicians install, maintain, and repair temperature control equipment found in modern homes and commercial businesses. (2) SJVC’s HVAC-R program prepares students for entry-level employment and the opportunity to earn OSHA 10-Hour Construction and CPR certifications. Earn your Certificate of Completion in as few as 10 months.
California Certification Pathways
California requires electricians and HVAC-R technicians to meet state licensing requirements. SJVC Temecula programs prepare students to sit the following certification exams:*
For HVAC-R Technicians:
- Graduates have the opportunity to earn OSHA 10-Hour Construction and CPR certifications.
- Graduates from Arizona locations looking to work in Arizona are generally not required to achieve licensure to begin entry-level HVAC-R employment. Advanced positions may require licensure with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors. Details are available at https://roc.az.gov/license-classification-requirements.
SJVC prepares students to take appropriate certification and licensure exams related to their individual majors. The College does not guarantee students will successfully pass these exams or be certified or licensed as a result of completing the program.
For Electricians:
- Graduates have the opportunity to earn OSHA 10-Hour Construction and CPR certifications.
- For California Residents: This program meets the standards set forth by the California Department of Industrial Relations towards the current California Electrician Certification Program. Upon completion of the program, the student is eligible to sit for the California General Electrician’s Certification Exam.
- Graduates from Arizona locations looking to work in Arizona are generally not required to achieve licensure to begin entry-level Electrical Technology employment.
